University Students

These are a few pictures of the workshop that we had last weekend.  MOTE (Dr. David and Sandee Walden) was in town and brought a team of Bible students and professors from Living Way Church in California to assist with the workshop.

It was a 2-day workshop.  Day 1 consisted of introductions and the general overview of the conference.

On the second day, after a little instruction, the students broke into small groups along with the US professors and students and worked a little on one of their projects.  They really appreciated this one-on-one time together with the professors, listening intently and providing feedback on their work.

It was great to see everyone working together and learning from one another.

Student projects:

These are a few pictures of one of the student projects where the student worked to raise money and purchase Bibles for people in her community who do not have them.  After giving out the Bibles, they sat together to give some tips on how to start studying the Bible.

Another student wanted to serve the teenagers at risk in her community.  There is a corner store/bar where many of the young teenagers "hang out" when they don't have anything to do.  This environment is really not the best for these youth.  As you can imagine they are exposed to all sorts of behaviors that are not good for them and violate their innocence.

She decided to offer an alternative.  One Friday, she gathered all these teenagers and had them help the teenagers in her church prepare a meal and sit down together near the church to have a dinner together.  The youth and members of her church played games with them and just related with the teenagers.

This went over so well, that it has become a routine.  While they don't cook a meal each week, they gather together every Friday to invest in, teach and mentor these teenagers.

The last student I'll mention is a pastor named Euripides.  For his project, he sensed God leading him to serve by building relationships and praying for the men and guards in the local jail.  They started going once a week to bring food, pray with and minister to the people there.  In 3-4 weeks, they had opportunities to lead 15+ people to Christ.  They continue to go each week to encourage and mentor these people and pray with others, telling them of the love God has for them and that because of Jesus they are forgiven and can have a relationship with their Heavenly Father.

This is a picture of the whole team at the workshop last weekend -- MOTE team, translators and the University students.  Please continue to pray for these students, for their continued growth as leaders and pastors and that God would continue to use them in practical ways to share Christ's love with others through their words and deeds.
